Humans all have a strong need for safety, security, and psychological comfort in our homes. With the current situation that the world is going through, spending our time at home 24/7 still feels surreal and we wonder how the pandemic will change our lifestyle and whether we will return to our old normal. Confined to our nest, we are also more conscious of the space we share and the limitations of our homes. In this blog, I discussed with Malaysian lifestyle designer, architect and interior stylist on how COVID-19 will impact or has impacted our homes, and what we can do immediately to make our home more pleasant and comfortable to live in. Now more than ever, our homes, our “Sanctuary” has been elevated to perform a myriad of functions. Following the coronavirus outbreak, we have turned our homes into a place to work, a place to homeschool, a place to play in, a place to continue to exercise in, a place to dine, a place of relaxation, a place to sleep and recharge, a place to find inspiration and most importantly a place of solitude as well. With this, the designs of homes hereafter will change. Priorities and emphasis will be given to making simple spaces function more than a single use. A dining table will have more uses than just a dining experience. Other valuable ideas that will grow with the new evolution of home designs and also improving its environmental aspects are home grown farming, increasing home plants, energy saving utilities (ac/washing machine, dryer, fan, cooking equipments, etc) emphasis on air circulation, daylight and internet access design, investing in multi-use sofas, comfortable and easy cleaning rugs, and much much more. A house is no longer just a shelter to come home to after a long day’s work but has now been elevated to be the center of ALL activities in your life. Past work Portfolio of Senihomes, https://senihomes.houzz.com/ We’ll probably never see our homes in the same light again. Versatile and multifunctional spaces are more necessary now that we are spending more time at home. From working, having meetings, and exercising, it seems more important now to create a space just to do this specific activity. Working from home is the new normal, and a trend moving forward. Find a space in your home that is dedicated and designated mainly just for work. Working from your sofa or bed can create mental distress and your work productivity will suffer, so set up a desk and chair to separate your professional life from the personal. Past work Portfolio of Re Design http://studiore.design/ Past work Portfolio of SMDP, https://smdpstudio.com/ One of the things that you can immediately do during this pandemic is to declutter your space. We focused so much on the aesthetic, that we often overlooked the fact that having a beautiful home always starts from the internal. Research has shown that clutter in the house can lead to anxiety and anger issues that can stress you out. Decluttering is a way for you to take control of your home and life. It helps to improve your overall well being and can help to improve your health and happiness. The best way is to start small, focus on each area of a room, and completing it fully before moving on to the next. Past work Portfolio of Indigo Interiors, IG: indigo_interiors. When you think about vintage design, the first thing that springs to mind is undoubtedly outdated and definitely old-fashioned, but that is not always the case. To characterize it, vintage style typically evokes feelings of nostalgia and reminiscence of the beautiful and elegant era of 1940s. Back in those days, things were absolutely in their own element. Typically, vintage interior design combines sumptuous textiles, lovely and dreamlike chandeliers, sparkly metal, and a blend of delicate and powerful contrast. To put it simply, this type of design was often bold and seductive. As for the colours, vintage interior design mainly combines white, beige, lilac, and other light-coded colour schemes ranging from blue grey to greyish green and to pastel pink. Shifting into decorations, mixing different vintage components from different eras of designs and items such as lovely spring colours of charming floral designs, antique frames, grandma's favorite plates, crystal or even metal vases, and many more is one of the best methods to create an appealing vintage aesthetic. When it comes to combining all the pieces together, it will produce a timeless, romantic, and melancholic feeling with the ideal mixture of glam and vintage, which may generate the face of ultimate luxury and elegance. Now, if you want to complete your vintage design look, we suggest styling these stunning vintage and modern oil painting designs with a dash of glam into your interior. Let’s get this thing straight to what is exactly a man cave? Well, apparently the whole point of a Man Cave is to have your own, devoted area that is tailored to your own requirements and preferences. The ideal man cave is not only the ultimate façade of cool, but it is also what defines you as a person. And as the reasons may varies, it will all comes down to one thing; a personal space to relax and unwind. Just to make it clearer, it is a place where males tend to ease up, work, and pursue their interests without interruption from the rest of the home. Because I live with one, I understand how crucial it is for them to have their own personal space. Generally, this place is adorned only by the man who occupies it, and there goes the irony. The one thing that defines a Man Cave, regardless of where it is in your home, is its seclusion. It may as well be a basement, a spare room, or, if you own a smaller section, it can also be just that little corner in the area. As usual, Man caves are often designed based on those men’s hobbies and pastimes. It might be football memorabilia, merchandises, or even music regalia... everything about it depends on their interests. The idea is to come up with a theme that feels right to be at home with you, one that makes you feel happy and content every time you walk into the man cave. To get you started, do check out the mood board below. Getting an outstanding masterpiece is also great way to define who you really are in your own personal space. When you need to make a change on the inside, the easiest place to start is with your surroundings. In addition to that statement, a bright splash of colour may make a cheerful atmosphere and a joyful attitude. Well then, let me introduce you to the colour orange! As you can see, orange is a fiery, passionate, and vivid colour associated with the sun and fire. If you enjoy being surrounded by pleasure and merriment, it can be the perfect colour for your inside space! Quite often, we underestimate the colour orange since it is strong and kind of in-your-face but being surrounded by it will just give you a refreshing and relaxed feeling. Obviously, this colour has an active and vibrant personality and should therefore be used in locations where there will be a lot of activity. By the way, the colour orange can do so much more than merely decorate a place; it can have an influence on people simply by being present. Well-being, both emotionally and physiologically. Might I add, orange colour tones are similar to yellow and red colours, and they may make great accents in a variety of different room colours. When used sparingly in home design colour schemes, optimistic and bright orange colour hues are safe and extremely useful. Moreover, tones and hues of light and deep orange are flexible and may be used in any space or interior design style. By bringing orange oil paintings or accessories like as candle holders, floor rugs, or pillow covers to the frame it also adds warm and positive energy into the space and may create a fashionable and welcoming ambiance. If you are looking for things with a dash of orange to bring a unique touch to your home design, this vibrant hue is the ideal (surprisingly) complement to your fresh, modern style. Being a big fan of colours, I have a love-hate relationship with grey. I love how colours can change how I look and feel, but it just doesn't have the same effect with grey. The colour grey is subdued, quiet and reserved and in my opinion, lack of personality. It does not stimulate, energised, rejuvenate or excite. If you take a quick look online, you will see that grey plays a big role in many Minimalist and Scandinavian interior space. I can understand why this interior design look is having such a major moment in the design world. It is a design movement focus on simplicity and functionalism. This characteristic will results in a clean- cluster free, calming space without being boring and oh, a relief from a chaotic world. From a colour psychology perspective, grey is the colour of compromise, being neither black nor white, it is the transition between two non-colours. Grey is almost like a colourless colour. Each shade of grey is capable of creating a different feel, look and style of each room, with it's fresh monochromatic vibe. The closer grey gets to black, the more dramatic and mysterious it becomes. The closer it gets to silver or white, the more bright and lively it becomes. The colour grey has proven to be popular among the interior design community over the past year or so, despite the controversy that surrounds it. It's not a secret that some people associate the colour to be sad and depressing. Given the fact that it is virtually absent of colour and draws no attention to itself. Having said that, grey also colours give stark neutrals a warm uplift of a classy and sophisticated look to emphasise the brightness of a space. Grey goes with everything so it's the perfect contrast to host vibrant colours as discussed on our previous blog. If you love the look of beautifully smooth grey and white interior as many interior designers do, then this is a great set of inspirational home designs for you to consider... It is particularly appealing for a living room. Here are some of the past works that we did for our client in the past using a mix of grey and other neutral colour using 100% Handmade Oil Paintings On Canvas: Do you need help with your interior space? The truth about pink is that it is dainty, pleasant, and delightful colour that truly captures the essence of love. Needless to say, its exquisite and subtle quality entranced us by being surrounded by this gentle colour. Undoubtedly, pink carries its own charm and sweetness as it is so lovely to look at. All the while it may make you feel as if you are being wrapped in a warm embrace. Hence, that is why pink often represents passion, femininity, and most importantly, love. Something about pink is that is so attractive is it comes in a variety of hues, ranging from delicate pastels to blazing hot pink. It is truly the ideal colour for creating a romantic environment at home. To imply, the master bedroom should be the one location in the house that exudes those beautiful sensations. Do not wait to bring out your soft cushions, silky blankets, and evocative artwork, and dim the lights. Pink is, of course, ideal for a girls (and boys!) bedroom. We often see that pink was chosen in the master bedroom to create a more romantic atmosphere, meanwhile, it reflects the innocence of a child in their room. Some may find it a touch overly sweet. With that, pink can become excessively 'candied' and overpowering in the wrong hands. To be sure, you do not want to feel like you're surrounded by fluffy pink marshmallows, even though that does sound pleasant. By utilizing a light pink tint, such as pastel or pale pink, might assist to soften the typically vivid colour. Try combining it with soft pastel hues, given the right chance, the room becomes a calming space rather than a noisy environment for a quiet night at home. Alternatively, if you are strong and outgoing (like myself), you may go for more colourful and striking pink tones. Whichever you like, incorporating pink into your house could bring out your charming and feminine side. These are some previous projects for our customer that used pink 100% Handmade Oil Paintings On Canvas as the main color scheme: Do you need any help with your interior space?
